History Of East Cobb
East Cobb County in Georgia is known today as an affluent Atlanta suburb, known for its family friendly community and excellent public schools, but do you know the history of how East Cobb came to be? East Cobb is located alongside the Chattahoochee River and was home to many Cherokee people. During the 1830’s a land lottery system was established to award land to settlers through a lottery system. The land was then developed by many settlers who’s names are remembered and reflected in street names and schools. For example, the Sewell brothers, owned and operated a mill in the area. In the 1960’s the area was known as Mount Bethel but began to be transformed again in the 1970’s. Land developers began construction in the 1970’s and the transform from farmland to a neighborhood suburb began. The corner of Sandy Plains Road and Shallowford Road transformed from farmland and a feed and farm store to one of the hearts of East Cobb’s neighborhoods. East Cobb is a great family community with excellent schools, parks and recreation areas and a strong sense of community.
